Week 2 Teaching with Technology

Week 2 Reflections

Thoughts on this weeks reading and videos...

Students need options to allow for different learning styles. We as teachers need to use "technology to maximize learning opportunities for every student" (Rose, 2002) The Universal Design for Learning (UDL) addresses the diversity in today's education as well as all students being required to perform on state assessments. Today's classrooms have an array of students from different back ground, different cognitive levels and different needs.  Technology allows for flexibility in learning by "(1) differentiate problems a student may have using particular kinds of learning media from more general learning problems and (2) draw upon a student's other strengths and interests that may be blocked by the exclusive use of printed text" (Rose, 2002). UDL is "the intersection where all our initiatives, integrated units, multi-sensory teaching, multiple intelligences, differentiated instruction, use of computers in schools, performance-based assessment, and others come together. (Rose, 2002).
